Simple. Fast. Yummy.
I thought these were SUPER delicious, as in, I'll make you once a week for the rest of my life. Hubby says he prefers
Pizza quesadillas. Son (4 years old) liked them without the cheese. Daughter (1 year old) devoured 2 of them but left most of the pepperoni behind. Go figure! I still rate it a winner! I firmly believe most regular pizza eating kids will think they are the coolest!
You'll need:
Package refrigerator crescent rolls
Pepperoni
String cheese (or you can sub shredded or chunk mozzarella)
2 Tbs. butter
1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
Spaghetti sauce for dipping
To make:
Heat oven to 350. Lay out crescent triangle. Add about 6 slices pepperoni. Add 1/2 of cheese stick. Roll up. Place all on baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes or until nicely golden. Melt butter and mix in seasonings. Brush over top of baked roll-ups. (you could omit the butter/seasoning combo but it WAS delicious!)
I served with a muffin cup full of warmed spaghetti sauce for dipping. And, we healthified things by also eating cut up red, yellow, and orange bell peppers, carrot sticks and cucumbers!
I doubled for our small family and only had two roll-ups left. As I was making these I felt like the cost of string cheese could really add up if you were making these for a crowd or even a larger family. That, and the fact that I ran out of cheese sticks, prompted me to try the shredded mozzarella I had on hand. The rolls were slightly more difficult to roll and therefore not quite as perfect looking in the end, but still tasty. I think you could just use a chunk from a mozzarella cheese block or even reduce the amount of string cheese to 1/3 a stick. 1/2 stick in one roll-up really was a generous amount.
